My Demise
I didn’t do it. I thought I could and I had all the faith in the world in myself. I was weak and I do not know what to say for myself. I felt guilty at the onset, but then it turned pleasurable and I even wondered what the big deal was… Looking back, it was simply an experience
I made it 24.5 days! That’s more than half way! And I think it’s longer than I made it last year. A tad bit disappointed in myself, but you know what? In these 24.5 days, I think I am a changed person. Well, may be not completely, but may be in some way, I have developed my sense of discipline.
If you don’t recall, for Lent, a forty day period, I decided to give up sugars (excluding lactose and fructose).
I went 24.5 days without any cookies, cake, ice cream, candy, pancake syrup, jam or jelly, non-diet sodas, and lemonade made with regular sugar (I subsituted stevia. I can’t stand Splenda.). For Fran’s birthday, I ate fresh strawberries and pineapple in lime juice. In California, I passed up churros, chocolate dipped bananas, coffee cakes, donuts and I even stayed strong while my mean, mean cousins took me to a fudge and candy store! But one trip to The Rainforest Cafe and Elijah’s godfather, yes my child’s godfather, rubbed my shoulder and said it was “Okay” for me to eat Sparklin’ Volcano (rich chocolate cake towered over a mound of ice cream and a huuuge heap of whipped cream. Okay, it was fake whipped cream, but at this point sugar is sugar.
